Following the Psalms

Psalm 1

1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners or join in with scoffers.

2 But they delight in doing everything the LORD wants.
Day and night they think about his law.

3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, Bearing fruit each season without fail.
Their leaves never wither,  And in all they do , they prosper.

4 But this is not true of the wicked. They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.

5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment.  Sinners will have no place among the godly,

6 For the LORD watches over the path of the godly  But the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

(NKJV)

How well God must like you —
You don’t hang out at Sin Saloon
You don’t slink along Dead-End Road
You don’t go to Smart-Mouth College

Instead you thrill to Yahweh’s Word,
You chew on Scripture day and night.
You’re a tree replanted in Eden,
     Bearing fresh fruit every month,
Never dropping a leaf,
     Always in blossom

You’re not at all like the wicked,
Who are mere windblown dust —
Without defense in court,
     Unfit company for innocent people.

Yahweh charts the road you take.
The road they take is Skid Row

This is the first of what, hopefully, will become a study of the biblical book of Psalms. I want it to be interactive, so I’d really like your comments. I will do my best to answer any questions and to enlighten and educate you.

This is not my first time teaching from the Bible. I have taught all ages – children, youth, and adult. I have never used this format in teaching, so it promises to present a new learning curve for me as well.

I am retiring, as I said in “Why Psalms?”, in just a few weeks. Chances are I will not be back to this until after mid-July, but don’t let that keep you from posting comments and questions. I will be responding and answering once I am able to get back on-line.

See you in a few weeks.
